On a cold winter night several years ago, I remember my mother and me sitting together watching The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell as he shared his experience on a visit to Malawi. We watched intently as Lawrence continued to talk about, and shared images of children sitting on concrete and dirt floors as their teacher delivered the lesson. My mother and I were deeply saddened and moved to tears as we listened to the words from the students and teachers.
On this day; my mother decided she would honor her mother by making yearly contributions to the K.I.N.D. Campaign; Kids In Need of Desks. Her generous donation was made in the memory of her late mother…my grandmother, Eula Calloway. As I honor my late mother, Mabel Williams and grandmother, I have set an intention to make contributions to this cause, and other causes that support providing educational experiences to children in need.
