TRUE2U Youth Mentoring

TRUE2U Youth Mentorship Program

Today, I gratefully serve as a mentor to students participating in the True2U Youth Development and Career Awareness Program for 8th graders in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. (CMSD)

The True2U program is an innovative mentoring and career awareness program that prepares eighth grade students for the transition from middle school to high school. It began at the start of the 2015-2016 school year and served 807 youth with 150 mentors in Cleveland during its first year. The program’s goal is to serve 2,500 students in 68 schools by the beginning of the 2017-18 school year.

True2U uses a blended personal development and career exploration curriculum with elements from two key sources:

  1. Naviance, a comprehensive, career and college readiness software package introduced in Grade 7 that enables students and families to actively engage in career exploration, course selection, post-secondary planning, and college application activities; and

  2. “Teens Can Make It Happen: Nine Steps to Success”, which is a goal-setting and personal responsibility curriculum developed by entrepreneur and author Stedman Graham.

"The power of gratitude is my motivation to give back by serving others. I sincerely believe as I consciously and unconditionally choose to embrace an attitude of gratitude for my many blessings, as well as for the challenges that have taught me valuable life lessons, I am opening myself up to experience and receive more reasons to be grateful!  We keep what we have by giving it away." - Margo
